You Can Make a Difference

Give the gift of safety, hope, independence, and strength

New Horizons has been committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence in Middlesex County for more than 40 years. We understand the trauma experienced by survivors of domestic abuse, and are here for women, men and families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our story began when a victim’s partner burned the shelter down to the ground. But we have risen above this tragedy to create better lives and new horizons for generations of survivors.

Standing together, we can help more people overcome the ravages of domestic violence with dignity and respect.

Please stand with us. Your support at any level matters more than you know.

What your support means for survivors

“I have lived in fear that someone would find out that I was not brave enough to leave. I was sure that I was a failure. New Horizons showed me that with time I could find the strength to be alone. And now I realize he had no right to hurt me that way.”

“I came to New Horizons with nothing. I ran and took nothing but my baby with me. She had two diapers and I had my backpack with a wallet with no money and my baby’s insurance card. Sometimes I don’t know how I found the strength to meet them at the drop off place. All I knew was that the voice on the other end of the phone promised they would make me safe and I couldn’t take one more minute of the abuse.”

“It took me a few months to realize how bad things were before I got to shelter but now that I look back I realize I could have died. He broke my heart but the support group and the other residents and staff at the shelter helped me fix it. I am a work in progress still so I will keep doing groups and writing in my journal and someday I will write the book and I will dedicate it to New Horizons.”

NH2-2

278 purple rocks were displayed at our 8th Annual Walk to End the Silence in October 2022 during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The rocks symbolize the 240 women (dark purple) and 38 men (light purple) who lost their lives to intimate partner violence in Connecticut over a 10-year period. Join us in saying “no more!”
